It can take time for new pages to be indexed. Until they are, indexed pages virtually don't exist. Use IndexCheckr to know when your new pages get indexed.
Pages can get deindexed because of an unintentional change like a bad robot meta tag. Search engines can also deindex pages and this is a very bad sign. Monitor your pages and be reassured this does not happen.
If your links are placed on pages that are not indexed, they have no SEO value. Double check that all your links have value. Show your clients the links you acquired for them are good.
Do you have a list of pages you would like to place a link to? Use IndexCheckr to check if these pages are indexed before putting in any effort.
It's a great tool that works incredibly well. I had issues with Screaming Frog and other tools, while this one gets the job done.
I highly recommend to add IndexCheckr to your SEO toolkit.
