Organizing pages with tags

Learn how to tag pages in IndexCheckr, filter the Pages Report by tag, and apply bulk actions to tagged pages.

Tags let you label pages inside a project, for example by client, campaign, link type, language, or the date you built a batch of backlinks. You can then filter the Pages Report by tag and apply bulk actions to just those pages.

Adding tags when you add pages

In the Add pages window, each tab (pasted URLs, CSV import and sitemap import) has a Tags (optional) field. The tags you enter are applied to every page in that import.

Tags field

For sitemap imports, the tags are also applied to new pages found in the sitemap later, when it is rechecked automatically.

💡 Note: A CSV file can't carry tags. Only the first column (the URL) is read, so use the Tags field instead.

Tagging a single page

  1. In the Pages Report, open the page's actions menu and click Edit.

    Edit a page

  2. In the Tags field, type a tag and press Enter. Existing tags are suggested as you type.

  3. To remove a tag, delete it from the field.

  4. Click Save.

Tagging pages in bulk

  1. Select pages with the checkboxes, or use the selector to pick All items on this page or All items.

Add tags to a set of pages

  2. Open the Actions menu and click Add tags or Remove tags.

  3. Enter the tags and click Save.

Add tags to a set of pages

All items means every page that matches your current search and filters, not only the ones on screen. For example, filter on Page not indexed, select All items, and add the tag to-fix to tag every non-indexed page in the project.

Seeing and filtering by tag

Tags appear as grey labels under each page URL in the Pages Report.

  • Use the Tags filter above the table to show only pages with the selected tags. Each tag shows how many pages in the project carry it.

  • When you select several tags, only pages that carry all of them are shown.

  • Click a tag under a URL to add it to the filter.

The tag filter combines with the search field and the status and recheck period filters. Bulk actions and CSV exports on All items use the same filters, so you can recheck, submit to an indexer, change the recheck frequency, export or delete just the pages with a given tag.

Rules and limits

  • Up to 20 tags per page, each up to 50 characters.

  • Tags can't contain commas.

  • Tags are not case-sensitive: EN and en are the same tag, and the first spelling you used is kept.

  • Tags are shared across all projects in your account, up to 500 different tags.

  • A tag disappears automatically when no page carries it any more.

  • Team members can add and remove tags too.

Tags in exports and the API

  • CSV exports of the Pages Report include a Tags column, with multiple tags separated by commas.

  • The IndexCheckr API returns each page's tags, lets you set tags when adding or updating pages, and lets you filter pages by tag.
